Evie was born on May 3, 2004. Todd and I decided to adopt Evie after spending one evening with the
Conrads and their new puppy, Evie's littermate, Reggie. I told Todd the next day he needs to come up with a name, because
when I get home from work we were going to pick her up. She was the last puppy left in the litter that wasn't spoken
for and the orneriest. She was the instigator of the bunch and still is to this day. It didn't take Todd and I
long to fall in love with her - she was very playful and extremely loving.
Dodi and I registered Evie and Reggie in
Basic Obedience Training Class. They were the two youngest dogs in the class. I couldn't be there for testing,
so Dodi stepped in and tested her for me. Evie and Reggie graduated at the bottom of the class. You would not
know this, because they are two of the most obedients dogs I have ever encountered. We also go something else out
of the Training, a friend. Trainer Terri Herb, owner of Happitee Kennels in Red Lion. She helps us with nutrition
and health and her opinion and advice has been invaluable.
At 8 months old, Evie became very ill. Our local Veterinarian
at the time did some tests but could not figure out what the problem was. She was referred to a specialist in Maryland.
We were told that they couldn't complete the test because of an antibiotic our local veterinarian had given her, but by looking
at the X-Rays and her symptoms it looked like lymphoma. They only gave her 6-12 months to live. We were to bring
her back after the antibiotic was out of her system and she became ill again. We were absolutely devastated. Well,
needless to say, she never got sick after the antibiotic was out of her system. It was the MIRICLE we prayed for.
We
had no intention of competing with Evie, but after going to a few events to watch Reggie, Scott and Dodi talked us into signing
up for an event in March 2006. We have been hooked ever since. Evie has so much fun and who can deny their dog
of that much enjoyment.
Todd has just started to take her hunting with him. With some time and work, I think
she will get the hang of it. She is extremely smart and there are more words in her vocabulary that she understands
than most humans. She enjoys walking and playing ball at the park. Playing with brother Reggie is the best!
She makes us laugh every day and is definitely a cure to a bad day.
