Dillsburg, PA - The cooperative efforts by the Keystone DockDogs and the Canine Spa produced the first
successful fun jump at the Dillsburg business on Saturday, February 7,, 2009. Twenty first time competitors ranging
from little Scamper the Jack Russell Terrier to the excitable, barkable Doberman Pinscher named Pepper participated.
Some such as youth handler Cheyenne Myers and her mother Cheryl had been eagerly waiting to compete after practicing for weeks
during Friday night dock diving. Others, like Sally Henry who just happen to show up, went at it with little preparation.
In the end all had a great time and left more educated about the ins and outs of a DockDogs Competition.
Two
teams achieved senior level jumps (distance between 15’ to 19’11”). Mack, a highly titled Weimaraner
in several other canine disciplines, went big for handler Barbara Jacobs. His best jump of 18’02” was the
best of the competition. Second overall was Nova handled by Margaret Ulmer. Fifteen four was their best jump distance.
Winning the junior division (distance between 10’ to 14’11”) and having the 3rd best jump of the fun jump
was Judy Terchek and Jetta at 14’07”. A novice (distances below 10’) winner was also awarded.
Novice first place was won by Merry Moyer’s black lab Casy. Their jump of 9’03” in the first wave
was good enough to win. They hung around for the second wave for a chance to up their score and ended up with a best
of 9’09”. Congratulations to all.
The Keystone DockDogs extend their appreciation to Gary Reihart
of the Canine Spa for the flexibility and support he granted Keystone, and also for contributing awards for the divisional
winners. Special Thanks goes to Keystone member Kevin Landis who put much effort into organizing the event, and who
had also been volunteering his time to provide instruction for the beginners during Friday night dock diving at the Canine
Spa.
