Harrisburg PA  After a cold long winter, Keystone DockDogs kicked off the 2008 club season with a bang. The 3rd Annual Pawsabilities event was held in Harrisburg, PA. Thanks again to all the volunteers who made this event possible. It reunited old friends and welcomed many new faces. We saw a record number of EV participants and held our first club Speed Retrieve event. What was even more exciting was the turnout of new people wanting to try out the sport. There was even waiting list at the registration table of people wanting to have their dog give it a try. As a last resort, they were just as happy to take one of many fun jumps. We also had the opportunity to see the future of Keystone with a huge amount of young handlers on the dock over the weekend.

All of the waves contained huge number of Keystone members all jumping their hearts out and placing in many waves. Kim Malmer & Rocky, one of our smallest competitors, jumped 7’ 9” in the Lap Dog division. Susan Hetrick & Argus won the Veteran’s division with a jump of 11’ 10". One of the most exciting competitors of the weekend was the winner of our Junior Handler division, Andrew Fisher & Morgan. Not only did Andrew & Morgan jump an incredible 23’ 1”, they competed in all three disciplines (Big Air, EV, and Speed Retrieve) with so much excitement and enthusiasm it made everyone remember what DockDogs is really about.

In the finals, Keystone DockDog members jumped their way into many of the winning positions. We started with a clean sweep of the Novice final with Seth Kieffer & Mollie winning first with a jump of 7’ 7”. Followed up by Kim Malmer & Rocky with a 7’ 4” jump. Close behind was the tight battle between husband and wife, Eric & Alexandra Beauvais, jumping their just turned jumping legal (6 months) littermates, Kaley & Henry. Eric & Kaley jumped 6’ 7” to beat out Alexandra & Henry who jumped 6’5”.

Junior finals brought a 1st place finish by Alexandra Beauvais and Kori with a jump of 14’. Wanda Landis and Chip were nipping at her heals with a 12’ 9” jump to take 2nd place.

Senior finals had Erin Murphy showing her multi-tasking skills by jumping 2 dogs in the same final. She took first place with Odin and a jump of 19’ 9”. Todd Smoker and Evie follow right behind with a jump of 19’ 1”. And Odin’s brother, Cash, made his debut appearance to place third with a jump of 18’ 6”.

The Pro Finals brought out a huge showing for Keystone with placing on 8 of the top 12 positions. Sharon Rodgers & Thunder (who completed in all three disciplines) came in 11th place with a jump of 18’ 10”. Young handler, Andrew Fisher, came in 10th place with a jump of 19’ 2”. 8th place went to Carrie Mogel & Jack (who also completed in all three disciplines) with a jump of 20’ 8”. Sue Cannon & Gauge place 7th with a jump of 21’ after a busy 3 discipline weekend. John O’neill & Razz came in 6th with a 21’ 9” jump. The final four was a tight race. After competing in all three disciples and winning Speed Retrieve, Tim Kline & Bella secured 4th place with a jump of 21’ 11”. Angel Cervantes & Chocolate jumped 22’11” to place third. Dodi Conrad & Reggie jumped a big 23’ 3” to complete a successful weekend in 2nd place in Big Air.

Dodi Conrad & Reggie won Keystone’s FIRST Overall Champion with the best scores in Speed Retrieve and Extreme Vertical and the second best score in Big Air among competitors who competed in all three. The other five “Triple Threats” were also all Keystone members.

Dodi Conrad & Reggie grabbed 6’ 6” for a 1st Place finish over TR Thompson & Charlie’s 2nd Place grab of 6’ 4”. The crowd went wild cheering for their 7’ 4” try at a new Indoor World Record, but hard as he tried, Reggie just couldn’t knock down that bumper. In their very first EV competition, Andrew Fisher & Morgan grabbed 5’ 10” for a 1st Place Cadet Finish.

Speed Retrieve was an extremely exciting event. Dodi & Reggie got up on the dock for their second try – this at their first event and never practicing – got a 5.935. We were sure we just witnessed a new World Record. The Top 8 Finals were very exciting with seven of the eight teams Keystone Members and excitement was running high. Tim Kline had both Bella and Jasper raring to go “get the duck”. Tim & Bella finished 1st with a 6.015 – a new record for the team. Dodi & Reggie finished 2nd with a 6.375 and Tim & Jasper finished 3rd with a 6.625.
